Teaching the next generation of energy professionals

Postgraduate courses

  • Materials for Sustainable Energy Technologies (MRes)
    This course, which consists of six taught modules and a research project (based in the University or in industry), can be taken in one year full-time or two years part-time

  • Physics and Technology of Nuclear Reactors (MSc)
    This dedicated one-year course, aimed at teaching the subject to an advanced level to graduates in physics or a related discipline, has been running for 50 years, since just before the UK opened its first nuclear power station at Calder Hall.  It is also available as a two-year course for students with a background in other subjects.

  • Radioactive Waste Management and Decommissioning (Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma)
    This modular course is supported by many companies in the nuclear industry.  Students take three modules on a block-release basis for the Certificate, and then complete a work-based project for the Diploma.

Undergraduate courses

The Schools of Engineering have established the following undergraduate BEng/MEng degrees;

Chemical and Energy Engineering
